About the event
Located on the Usual and Accustomed lands of the Cowlitz Tribe, the “Dabbler” timber sale threatens 166 acres of the Siouxon Legacy Forest. This forest is designated as "Type A and B spotted owl habitat" by the Department of Natural Resources, areas like this are normally meant to be protected however the DNR is using a loophole in their habitat conservation plan to log this forest. This forest is 120 years old, having naturally regenerated from the Yacolt Burn in 1902. This forest is home to huge second growth douglas fir and western red cedar, and contains massive Douglas fir snags. This forest has never been clear-cut and is a natural post-fire ecosystem.
Please join LFDC and on Saturday, August 24th to visit the sale and raise awareness for our Legacy Forests.
Where: We'll meet at the Chelatchie Prairie General Store in Clark County and then carpool to the side of the forest walk, which should take about 30 minutes.
When: 10:00am-2:00pm Saturday, August 24th, 2024
What: The hike will be approximately 1 mile round-trip, we will be walking off-trail. We should be able to park right next to the forest.
Please bring water, snacks, shoes to hike in and the appropriate layers in case of rain.
