Join LFDC in the Sherman Creek Legacy Forest in western Capitol State Forest. DNR is planning to clearcut over 100 acres of this forest in the "Cake Walk," "Carrot" and "Evergreen Gold" timber sales. DIFFICULTY: MODERATE Around 1.5 miles on trails, some off-trail hiking is optional.

About the event

Located on the Usual and Accustomed lands of the Chehalis Tribe, the Sherman Creek Legacy Forest in Capitol State Forest is one of the largest complexes of Legacy Forest remaining in the Black Hills. It is currently being targeted by the "Cake Walk," "Carrot" and "Evergreen Gold" timber sales, which were all approved by the Board of Natural Resources in recent months.


This forest is home to huge second growth Douglas fir and western redcedar, including areas that were once protected as Marbled Murrelet habitat.


Please join LFDC on Saturday, December 21st to visit the sale and raise awareness for our Legacy Forests.


Where: We'll meet at the Bob Bammert Grove Trailhead in Capitol State Forest, then we will carpool to the "Cake Walk" timber sale where we will hike 1.5 miles on trail. Weather permitting, we will then visit the "Evergreen Gold" timber sale which is located nearby. Those…
